Environment
The external surroundings in which a plant or animal lives.
Niche
The job or function of an organism in a community of plants and animals.
Flood
A great flowing or overflowing of water, especially over land usually not under water.
Drought
An abnormal long period of time without precipitation in a certain area.
Perish
To die.
Thrive
The ability of an organism to prosper under the current environmental conditions of the time.
Roots
Long thread-like structure that helps the plant absorb water from the soil.
Leaves
The structures of a plant that help it make food through photosynthesis.
Dormant
To become latent, or inactive, in order to survive a change in the environment that an organism is not well adapted to.

Animal Life Cycle
The stages of growth and development that an organism goes through in its lifetime.
Egg
The first stage in the life cycle of many organisms.
Larva
The small wormlike stage in the life cycle of some insects.
Pupa
The stage in the life cycle of some insects when the organism changes from a larva to an adult.
Adult
Mature organism that is no longer growing
Metamorphosis
The changes in form that some insects go through during their life cycle.
Beetle
One of the main groups of insects. They have a hard shell and undergo metamorphosis
Butterfly
A flying insect, usually with striking colors and patterns on its wings. Butterflies live on pollen and nectar from flowers.
Cocoon

Flow of Electricity
Electricity is a form of energy. It is the type of
energy formed inside certain particles of matter. Electricity can move from one
place to another. Electricity moves through wires because wires are made out of
metal, which is a good conductor. Electricity moves through wires only when the
wires are part of an electric circuit. A circuit begins and ends at a source of
electricity. A battery is a common example of a source of electricity for
electric circuits.
If you take a close
look at a battery, you will notice that it has two ends. A battery has a
positive end and a negative end. When a wire is connected to the positive end
and the other end of the wire is connected to the battery’s negative end, a
circuit is formed and electricity will move (flow) through the wire.
When you plug a television or a computer into a wall, you complete an electric circuit. The wall outlet is the source of electricity in the circuit. Electricity flows through the circuit to power the television or computer. Electric current flows from the outlet and into the wires in the power cord. The power cord is connected to the device, and the wires in the cord allow electricity to flow to the device and give it power. The power cord is made of plastic because plastic is a good insulator. The electric current then flows back to the source. The electric current flows basically in a type of circle.
Questions:
1) Why are the wires in a circuit made from metal?
2) What would happen if one of the wires was cut?
